Nova Scotia Wine Growing Regions

Since Nova Scotia does not produce Vitis Vinifera grapes or VQA wines. The areas in which grapes are grown are referred to as Growing Areas and not VA (Viticultural Areas).

There are two areas in Nova Scotia that lend themselves to grape growing they are:
  • the coast along the Northumberland Strait
  • the Annapolis Valley
Nova Scotia Climate

Northumberland Strait

The Northumberland Strait, has the warmest salt waters north of the Carolinas,  it is warmer in the summer months than many other coastal areas, this stored heat from the water keeps the land warmer in the fall.

The Annapolis Valley

The Annapolis Valley is located between an escarpment on the north mountains to the south creating a sheltered area that boasts the warmest temperatures, and the longest growing season in Nova Scotia.
