Cinsault
Cinsaultor cinsaut, is planted primarily in France and South Africa but is found in a few other wine growing regions as well. It is typically used as a blending wine to add flavor to other wine types, adding a mellow, fruity flavor.
Interestingly, in South Africa,
Cinsault is known as "
Hermitage". However, in the French
Hermitage wine, they do not use any Cinsault. Cinsault was crossed with pinot noir in South Africa to create
Pinotage - one of their more famous wines.
