But wait this is a wine site and believe it or not Wine goes very well with spicy food including Hot Hot Curries :) As you have probably noticed with our articles here we ignore the rules and firmly believe in going with what you like and most of all enjoy the wine and the food.
It used to be that people would leave wine off the table when eating a hot curry or a spicy Caribbean jerk chicken. However, times and peoples palettes have changed there are just some simple rules of thumb that you should use to guide your journey when pairing wines with spicy foods.
As with any meal make sure to find a wine that complements not competes with what you will be serving.
For spicy food this generally means lighter is better but not too light you don't want to pick such a light wine that it is completely over powered by the food (and you could have served water instead) You need to choose a wine that can stand with and compliment the spicy meal. For us that means .. fruity (sweet) white wines like Sauvignon Blanc, rose or Rieslings will have the same effect of a nice light beer pairing and won't compete but will compliment your meal.
You don't (unless you personally like the clash) want to serve a big deep Shiraz as you will have a war in your mouth between the big fullness of the shiraz and the fullness of the curry.
But Just like a Cold beer one of the highlighting affects for a nice spicy meal is the bubbles ... A great sparkling wine or .. Champagne also make for amazing pairings with spicy foods.
